I'm a switcher on the fence, about to take a new job where I'll be needing to manage a Windows 2000 network and develop web apps (is Microsoft ASP) . Any thoughts on using a TiBook (or newer if they are ever updated) for all this?
Also I would want to use Visual Studio.Net (for asp.net web development) which would require Virtual PC... is this going to be just wonderful on a mac or am I going to break down in frustration, run out screaming and get a Dell?
(BTW, I'm going against the grain with the Mac approach - the job is at a school with an all Win network.)

"A 20% increase in CPU speed is not very significant at all. I would bet a vast majority of users aren't going to notice any difference."
True.
"We recently upgraded one of our labs at school from PIII 500MHz to P4 2.53 GHz and what is that a ~82% increase in speed? "
False. It's more like a 400% increase in CPU speed. In my experience this difference is extremely perceptible. I have a 400Mhz PIII notebook and a 2.2Ghz desktop and the desktop is easily and very noticeably snappier in just about all tasks.

I've been testing out the Find My iPhone app for my iPad 2 (AT&T 3G). I have cellular data turned on but have not subscribed to AT&T's data service. GPS is working. Back home on my own wifi network, me.com can locate my iPad 2.
Sitting in the public library, I have my iPad 2 connected to the library's Wifi network. On my computer, I login to me.com to see if I can locate the iPad 2 and it can't. It made me think that perhaps the library's wifi system is not allowing me.com to backtrace to get to the iPad 2. Do you think that's happening?
I don't plan to buy cellular data service on the iPad 2 except maybe once a year for a month so am I screwed that Find My iPhone isn't going to work unless I buy cellular data?
Thanks!

Most happy with this idea.
This'd give me a store nearer to where I am.
And it will also be the final the death-knell for the dreadful Mac1 store in the Valley. That used to be a great store, but then they got in a bunch of GenY snots who had an astonishingly arrogant attitude to operate the place. I've even been in the shop when I've seen staff actually SNARL at a customer, then belittle them when they left the shop. They were only there to pick up a repair that they'd actually already paid for. . The attitude was so bad I almost dropped the purchase I was making at the time, and walked out the door. I probably should have.
Chermside is a major pain to get to for their apple store, and the place is usually so full of schoolkids (not that the CBD wont be) that it's impossible to move. Usually staff there are so busy just keeping an eye on the kids they are more or less baby-sitting, that it's often hard to get service.
Brisbane CBD: Beautiful building too. I've got high hopes for these guys.
Shame about the great bookstore that used to be there. But oh well.

I think its OK to hope for things you want to happen that are beyond your control.
If you hope some things to happen that you have the potential to alter the outcome of yourself (vs. doing something about it), you will often get disappointed and some ppl even "blame others" (even "god") when their hopes are squashed. This is the mentality of a "loser". It's one thing to lose when you've given it a shot, but if you've lost without even trying and just "hoping" it works your way, you are a loser from the start.
It's like "praying" to win the lottery. If you want to be rich, go out and start a business and give it a shot rather then spend the time praying to become rich and "hoping" your god makes you the chosen one.

If your looking for a mouse get an MX700 or MX900, I have an MX700 and it is by far my most favorite mouse. If you can afford it, get the MX1000, it is amazing.
if you dont want wireless get a mx510 mouse with a logictech keyboard.
Wireless you can get the MX700 dual set up. personly I love having a wireless keyboard and mouse

So I've brought this up in various places other than mac rumors, and as you can probably tell I'm a new member so I'm not sure if this has been brought up before. I am a huge fan of the iPhone and maybe part of it has to do with a fanboy mentality. I have the iPhone 4 and love it. A lot of people I know at school have blackberries and one of the only and most important reasons they have one is because of BBM. Everyone seems to be a huge fan of bbm-ing and getting people's pins and I have to say the idea of it is pretty enticing. I realize many of you will probably say "it is the same as texting" but it does have its differences. Also, people might say "they have tons of apps that already do this". The problem with that is that you have to convince people to get that same app. Currently I use whatsapp, which works well but only a select few people have it, those who I had to convince to get it. What I was thinking is why doesn't apple have a native app for iPhone to iPhone messenger similar to BBM? Seems like a good idea to me, just a thought though.
i don't bother with whatsapp or anything like that, i just use Beejive, which uses msn, yahoo, gtalk, facebook chat, etc all in 1 app, so whichever my friends use, they're there, just add my existing accounts. simples :) my friends use that, or ebuddy or trillian to do the same on their devices, be it blackberry, android or iphone.

I bought an mx laser mouse and it is amazing. Having all of those buttons becomes indispensible once you get used to it. I have a Macally ice keyboard and it is nice, similar to the powerbook keyboard. I saw the kensington in person and it also looks very nice and has some dedicated buttons for iTunes. That keyboard was not available but I would consider it because it looks pretty slick. They had it at CompUSA in Hawaii. Although I did not see it available here in Louisiana. Best of luck. And if you get that kenington let us know how it is.

Hi!
Ive just upgraded my 500GB scorpio blue to a new 5k750 and Im having lots of issues regarding perfomance.
The 5k750 is really slow, Im getting 43MB/s writing and 93MB/s reading using AJA as benchmark, and using Xbench only 44 of overal score.
Does anyone know if there is some issues in MBP 6,2 and new hitachi drives, or should I RMA it?
Thanks!

Unfortunately I have tried all steps suggested and it goes to the initial apple logo on white screen and then looks like its thinking about something but does nothing more. I do not have the disks with me is there anything else I can do?
Might as well call apple to get replacement cd's or maybe find a set on eBay. Or you can find someone with the same model as you have and use them to fix your drive.
You could get the 29 USD Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD and try it with that.
It all depends on what OS version is on the machine, the upgrade DVD most likely will not work. You will need the original DVD that came with the unit. Apple changed the way you can install the OS, as in you can't install an OS that was lower then what is was shipped with.....

HA! I will never install this program on my machine EVER AGAIN.
When they came out with it, it installed a TON of crap on my machine, plus it really screwed up my computer and I had to re-install a ton of software.
Goodbye Avid.

I just realized that the titles of my top 28 iTunes songs strung together, ordered by their playcount, results in kind of an interesting semi-comprehensible "poem". (I did have to add some punctuation marks)
Does this make sense to anybody else? :D
