Well i'll tell you this FCP 5 (floating around in places i won't mention) is around 1.5 GB so If it is on the App store It will be 1 BIG download for me.
    (3 Mbps cable line here)

The App Store should really harness the power of torrent technology for files like this.

I don't have one, however I did like this ad.
Curious if the same marketing company that does the current ip4 commercials does this one; as many have stated opinions of how terrible it is.

This ad has class, the "if you don't have an iPhone", not so much.

I like it a lot more than the "if you don't have an iPhone" ads but it still leaves me a little confused. The only phone/tablet ads I have ever noticed pushing thinness where iPhone ads (maybe I have poor ad retention or they never aired outside of the US). Making things thinner seemed like an Apple fetish that never overly interested me. I'm glad they agree with me a little bit now.

    this is crap,

no one in their right mind would make something with 0 ports, you have to at a bare minimum have an audio out.

buy a macbook then. the audio out works just fine on that.

Fry's Electronics is advertising Core Solo Mini's for $499 today. "Some demo, some open box". That is usually a sign that they are clearing out their remaining stock of an item.

You need to update to the 6.29 client.

Bigadv are still more ppd but on win side many people are switching to SMP2 because the a3 core is quite fast on 4 cores (8 virtual).

Soon bigadv units are switching to a3 core also. I would then hope that we will not be loosing units due to restart or power loss or network switching as the a3 core is now threaded.

thats so annoying now, you buy one new MacBook Pro then 6 months later its out dated. Im not saying its useless but c'mon.

It is hard to expect anything else. Just about every computer you buy is already outdated the minute you get it, they just aren't able to produce the better stuff in mass yet... I would like to have an outdated computer more than a current one for any great length of time, so that when I need a new one they are that much better instead of only slightly better.

Do people seriously have that many songs?!!! seriously?!!!

220gb = 50,000 songs?!!!!! That is totally not necessary.

As mentioned above, some people want to listen to their songs uncompressed.

It's funny because neither GM nor Ford in Europe use their own Diesel engines, instead GM use Fiat engines and Ford use a Peugeot-Citroen engine.

Wonder if this will be the case in this? Chevy in Europe is a very cheap and nasty brand of car, much like Kia (they are re-branded Daewoo's).

The current Cruze is a "world car", but if you plow through the marketing jibberish it appears that the car was engineered mostly by Daewoo with help from Opel. It's being built in Russia, China, South Korea and the USA (Ohio).

The diesel is an Italian (VM Motori) design, and on paper the numbers are pretty good: 150hp and 240 ft-lbs from a 2.0L I4. It's a common rail direct injection turbosiesel.

IMO European manufacturers have had much longer to perfect the technology (i.e. Common Rail Injected Diesel) so GM are up against it here.

The beauty of this move for GM is that the car is already being built in this configuration everywhere except in the US, so minimal design work needs to be done - all that is required is to get the diesel federalized (made US emissions-legal), and that will probably only involve a few small modifications.

So when will automakers sell a compact pickup with a 2 liter diesel in the US? I want a diesel pick up. But I don't want a behemoth that requires a ladder to enter and hogs 2/3 of a 2 car garage.:p

I prefer diesel in a work truck for three reasons: torque, torque and torque.

We almost got such a truck (http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/08/taj-mahauler-we-drive-the-mahindra-diesel-pik-up.html), but the whole project fizzled (http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/10/report-mahindra-diesel-pickup-truck-launch-in-us-indefinitely-delayed.html).

I don't see any similar vehicle coming to the US soon. For now, if you want a small diesel pickup you either have to buy an old 1970s-1980s Japanese pickup (a few were made as diesels) or do-it-yourself (http://vpizza.org/~jmeehan/toyotadiesel/).

Don't speak so definitively and pompously.

I work with these machines on the daily. Their service manuals are three mouse clicks and the type of my password away. My co-worker has at least two of them bare naked chips and bits exposed and all at his bench on the daily. It's hard not to stare at them as I take my morning walk to the break room to grab a cup of water. I can speak definitively because I know what I'm talking about. As for pompousness, sorry my tone offends you. Perhaps you might try ignoring it?

Well I hope it doesn't come too soon. Blu-ray is just too expensive right now and it would jack up Mac cost significantly. It's also better to see how the Blu-ray vs HD DVD thing works out as well just to make sure Apple doesn't back a dead horse.

    1) It would probably by a BTO option at first.

    2) With that kind of attitude, the standard you are backing will fail if you wait to see if it will succeed.

its my understanding that apple made this browser BEFORE MSIE was pulled from the mac. M$ pulled IE because they believed Safari was better and faster and could better serve the mac. it was also part of a marketing plan by M$ to remove IE as a stand alone browser from Win and Mac. Think before you post and do your homework. The rest of use don't want to read something that's not true or thot out.

Sorry but I disagree - what you say here is just something you made up !!!! Safari is a good browser and Apple only made it cause MS pulled IE. Think about it. Apple may have money but it needs to do something else to kick start growth....The Ipod doesn't have long to go...Itunes will still do well but it doesn't give Apple enough money !

Don't forget - please sign the petition.....

Why would I look at anything else if it were OK to use Windows?

Well then why the hell are you even chanting from the rooftops about how great Fusion is *supposedly* going to be when you KNOW that the chances of Apple using it are slim to none? It's like a kid nagging his parents for the ice cream that has a fancier logo and packaging when they know their parents aren't going to buy it for them because in reality it's all the same and will most likely taste worse then what they bought previously despite what their ads say.

    Hello,

As was already mentioned this feature just deletes (and only apps from the Mac App Store it seems) not uninstalls an app along with its related files. To find out more or to ask any questions just visit my site below. All the best!

If they use WiFi with the new iPods, they'll need a chunky battery. When I still used a PDA, the battery life nose dived when you turned on the WiFi. . .

My Nintendo DS lasts pretty long, even if I'm using WiFi.. and if it's just for Music download, WiFi won't be turned on all the time

I'd just like to agree with those who have pointed out that the main thing Apple's monitor division should be worrying about is price, not new sizes - the Apple logo can bear a certain price premium but not that much, especially as they don't yet include Apple-specific goodness such as integrated isight etc.

In October, I considered a 23" ACD at 848 inc. VAT, delivery and 3yrs of Applecare cover.

Instead, I phoned Dell and got the 24" 2407WP for 549.08 inc. VAT, delivery and 4yrs next business day swap-out cover. For the Apple, I would have had to pay a premium of 55% and got 1yr less cover.

Now, as it happens, Dell were running a 25% off special on the 24% in October but these offers are in continual rotation; at the moment, if you ask, you can get:

The 30" 3007WFP for just under a grand inclusive and 4yrs cover, compared to 1,618 for the 30" Apple and 3yrs cover (a premium of 62% and 1yr less cover)

    and

The 20" 2007WFP for 316 inc. and 4yrs cover, compared to 598 for the 20" Apple with 3yrs cover (a premium of 89% and 1yr less cover).

As for quality, I know monitors and the one I've got is top-notch - while it isn't Apple, the subtle styling is impressive and the stand's tilting and pivoting are the best I've ever seen. The consensus among reviewers seems to agree.

I'm not posting this to annoy Apple fans, I'm a huge fan myself and, yes, I would have paid a premium for that cute little apple logo but, frankly, it wouldn't have been worth that extra 55% - at Apple prices, I might never have made the jump to 24" but I'm glad I did, I'm even thinking about getting a second one.

With the move to Intel, Apple have done a great job of competing on PC pricing, why are they still in fantasyland when it comes to monitor pricing?

I just bought a Core Duo on the 21st, needless to say I'm pissed. Anyone know apple's price match policy?

You're probably too late. Should have waited, it was pretty obvious that most if not all of apple's machines would be updated around now, with both merom and conroe shipping.

    Whre is FireWire 800?

On the high end machines. Apple obviously considers it a pro format, not a mainstream one.

What? No Core2 Duo? Why? The Core2 Duo costs the same as the Core Duo, according to Intel's price list. Is there a shortage of the Core2 chips, was Apple committed to purchasing a certain number of Core Duos, or was whoever decided to go with this configuration just temporarily insane?

Apple doesn't pay the prices on the price lists, they negociate with intel. You can bet they're getting yonahs cheaper than meroms.

Thanks arn for the (early?!) round-up.

One thing's for sure. Apple will save their PR gunpowder. Even if all the rumoured products are ready for release, you can guarantee they'll keep a few things up their sleeve for later in the year. (This will disappoint those who fail to appreciate that MWSF never contains a complete roadmap for the following 3 months, let alone the next year.)

    I reckon:

    - Updates to iLife and iWork
    - New Video iPod and iTV released
    - Leopard previewed with more cheeky digs at our Redmond friends, Vista etc, but not due for launch until March
    - No word on an iPhone whatsoever, which will freak some people out

One thing that would be fantastic would be a complete overhaul to .Mac. What are the chances I wonder?

What's exciting though is that the rumours are so far so unreliable. :D

    Apr 21, 01:50 PM
Despite the freaked brigade and people wanting to turn this into a huge political argument I think this guy at Reddit had the best thing to say about this:

Yes they probably need to encrypt this to keep thieves and insane people from taking it from your phone but it's nothing that other cellular providers aren't doing with their phones, you just can't see it necessarily.

Thank you for the nice explanation. It is kind of funny that so many people don't bother to find out why this database even exists before jumping to conclusions. Now if it turns out they're gathering this info and giving it to marketers or whatnot, sure reason to complain there. If it is a feature with an oversight, then the overreactions here are needless. What is more likely, aliens stealing your bodily fluids or a design mess up?

As someone who's come over from the Windows world this has to be one of the few features that I think OS X is worse at. I shouldn't have to install a stand alone app (AppCleaner) to be sure that I'm removing the whole programme.

So, you're saying that windows programs don't leave files on your computer when uninstalled? Installing and uninstalling a bunch of programs don't make your windows PC slow down? I must be using the wrong programs. Not that I'm saying that Mac's are perfect, but worse than windows? I hope not (I'm not a mac user... Yet)
